Jim Noir – ‘What U Gonna Do’

Jim Noir – ‘What U Gonna Do’

Oddly reminiscent of Belle & Sebastian’s ‘Step Into My Office, Baby’, this quirky little ditty is a cutesy slice of bedroom electronica. Mancunian Jim is about to release his eponymous second album of one-man-band psychedelic whimsy, and this is typical of the slightly unfinished – and dare we say, slightly pointless – stuff on offer. It’s all pleasantly lo-fi, with a hum-along tune and some endearingly ham-fisted guitar pyrotechnics chucked into the mix, but amounts to pretty much nothing.

Infadels – ‘Make Mistakes’

Infadels – ‘Make Mistakes’

“Life was easy before the numbers came,” is an arresting start, but on the eve of the release of their second long-player Universe In Reverse, this Hackney outfit are struggling to mean something as they churn out a piece of vaguely catchy pop-rock that wants to be a bit edgier than it actually is. It’s acceptable, radio-friendly fare with glossy guitar and a trace of indie chops – the sort of thing Gary Crowley would’ve enthused about on The Beat in 1994.
